Employee Appreciation Day is on the first Friday in March. This day for employers to give thanks or recognition to their employees. Dr. Bob Nelson wrote the book 1,001 Ways to Reward Employees and wanted to remind employers to thank their employees when they do good work. His work has since helped thousands of companies create a Culture of Recognition, which helps employee retention, performance and helps companies attract top talent.
Why Should Employers Practice Employee Appreciation
Just like Dr. Nelson recognized, there are many reasons to practice employee appreciation. It’s not always monetary rewards, although that can make a big impact for those most impacted during inflation, however, simply recognizing the effort employees put in day after day can make a big difference. It fosters loyalty, improves engagement, strengthens team dynamics, drives innovation and creativity, and employees that feel appreciated will go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction which will contribute to long-term business success. Finding new employers is an extra expense, but valuing the the employees you currently can help retain top talent that it took years to develop.
Recognized employees are nearly six times more likely to stay at their current job than those who aren’t. Employees who feel their work is meaningful and their efforts are acknowledged are less likely to seek opportunities elsewhere.
