This costume just makes me so happy. I love Batman! And because Batman has several different versions, it makes it a bit easier to just use what you have. If you don’t have an old pair of trousers you can live without, thrift stores could always be a go-to source. Umbrella Bat Wing Costume – Mother Natured
This probably makes my top 10 upcycling ideas. Even if you didn’t have a black umbrella, you could probably paint the umbrella black or have a multicolored bat.
Materials Needed:
- Black umbrella
- Wire/side cutters
- Black electrical tape
- 2 metres of 25mm wide black ribbon
- Scissors

Skull & Ghost Bean Bag Toss Game – Danya Banya
Hosting a Halloween party at your house? This wicked awesome bean bag toss game might be the perfect addition.
Materials Needed:
- foam board, or if you’re handy with tools, you could use plywood,
- utility knife
- black permanent marker
- black paper
- sticky tape
For the bean bags, socks without a mate and some rice and you’re good to go.

CD Ghosts – Danya Banya
Check out this mother/daughter duo and these adorable ghosts! They used Windows ’95 program CDs and even repurposed black trousers for the mouth and eyes. You can use these ghosts as indoor or outdoor decor.

I’m loving these matte glass techniques. It’s easy and can be used in some many ways. Check out what The Twitchettes did with this technique.

- Elmer’s school glue. It must be the white kind.
- Food Coloring.
- A foam brush.
- An empty jar (olives, jelly, pickles, salsa, etc.)
- Water.
- Cardstock Silhouette graphics. (I just taped pictures to black cardstock and cut them out)

These Sweater Pumpkins are just too cute. As I go through my clothes before the season change, I always find one or two sweaters that I take to the thrift store, but this year I’m going to do this instead.
The only materials you need are:
- Cable Knit Sweater
- A darning needle,
- Stuffing,
- White cotton yarn
- Twine (optional).
- Use sizing spray or hairspray to add the decorative curls in the twine ‘vine’ at the end.

How awesome is this?! This is perfect for those times where you still want folks to come by your house for candy, but can’t necessarily be around to hand out candy. It’s super easy to make and only needs a few items.
Materials Needed:
- 4 long branches (ours were about 3.5 feet long)
- one skein of t-shirt yarn
- packing tape
- scissors (bonus if yours are orange for Halloween 😉
- one HUGE bag of candy (or 2 if you have a lot of trick or treaters in your area!)

This is a genius use of an old cushion cover that’s seen better days!
Materials Needed:
- Monster face template PDF
- Old cushion/pillow cover with zippered side – NOT ENVELOPE BACK (or 2 squares of fabric 42x42cm [16″x16″])
- For straps: Strong fabric 2 x 10cmx58cm (4″x22″) pieces
- Fabric scraps in your choice of colours for applique
- Sewing machine
- General sewing supplies

Ever in bind and don’t have access to supplies, so you have to get new ones? This what one lady did, but instead of buying new, she used the old. She used paint cans to make Trick or Treat bags when her others were buried in storage. How resourceful!
