In our family we go through a lot of plant labels in the garden. We’ve tried all kind of DIY plant labels, and here are some of our favorites.

Printable Garden Markers
Download these free printable garden markers, write which variety you used, and then laminate them. The colors are visible for about a season, but they’re affordable to replace year after year.
You can either use them as a tag for your plant containers.
Or you can use a little fork or clip to add it to another area of the garden.
Metal Garden Markers
Copper Garden Stakes
These solid copper plant labels will last forever. Although they acquire a layer of bronze tarnish, but with a copper cleaner they clean up quite nice.
Stamped Aluminum Garden Markers
These garden markers are made of thick aluminum, so they will not darken or rust over time in weather. The marker measures 3/8″ in width and 6″ in length.
Herb Fork Plant Labels
These are super cute silver herb labels made with forks. So cute!
Custom Spoon Plant Labels
Add some whimsy, charm, and romance to your garden with these gorgeous upcycled vintage spoon herb markers!
Plastic Garden Markers
These plastic garden markers are probably my favorite. Mini blinds are an easy resource to find at your local Habitat for Humanity restore, they last forever and when you write in pencil, the labels never wear off.
Wooden Garden Markers
Wood Burned Plant Labels
Wooden spoons are common and reasonably priced at most thrift stores. We collected as many as we could find and did a simple wood burning project. If you want to do a lot of wood burning projects, its definitely worth investing in a good wood burning kit. However, these beginner wood burning kits are affordable and great for starter projects.
Scrabble Plant Labels
Scrabble games are also a pretty cheap commodity at thrift stores. I collected 3 games and had enough tiles to make a large selection of plant marker names. We gave each tile a polyurethane finish before attaching them to the scrap wood pieces with wood glue. They didn’t hold up forever, but they were super cute while they lasted.
Painted Wooden Spoons
If you don’t want to splurge on a wood burner, you can also paint the wooden spoons with various designs and lettering. We used leftover Amy Howard at Home One-Step Paint, but you can use your favorite outdoor craft paint.
Upcycled Garden Markers
As you can see, there are many ways to upcycle every day materials as plant labels around the garden. Leave a comment with your favorite upcycled plant label ideas! Add a link or picture, and I’ll be sure to add it to this list.
Don’t forget to pin these fun garden labels for later!
I love all of these creative ideas. So cute too!
